INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
The International Programs of the HMS/HSDM Office of Enrichment Programs/Division of Service Learning (OEP/DSL) seek to promote valuable and novel educational experiences for the student in international health care settings to supplement their Boston-based experiences. We encourage and support student interest in and exploration of global health issues. Approximately 100 students are funded each year to carry out international projects.

International Research
HMS AND HSDM students may carry out research projects internationally, typically during the summer between their first and second years. The Office of Enrichment Programs/DSL can provide funding for some of these projects. Projects must be at least 7 weeks long at the international site to qualify for OEP/DSL funding. Students may join an existing project or design an original research project.

International Community Service
International community service projects are identified both by the Faculty Committee on International Programs and by student initiated proposals. These international community service projects involve preparatory and post-project reflection phases in Boston in addition to the international experience. Projects must be at least 7 weeks long at the international site to qualify for OEP/DSL funding.

International Clinical Electives
OEP/DSL can provide funding to HMS/HSDM students to defray some costs associated with conducting an international clinical rotation of at least 4 weeks at selected clinical elective exchange sites in Spanish-speaking countries or in countries where English may be used. Please contact Kari Hannibal, kari_hannibal@hms.harvard.edu, for more information on these sites.

International Fellowships
The OEP serves as a resource for HMS/HSDM students interested in applying for traveling (international) fellowships for academic study, community service, or research abroad, typically for one year. These fellowships include (but are not limited to) the U.S. Fulbright Scholars Program, the Fogarty Ellison Overseas Fellowships in Global Health and Clinical Research, and the traveling fellowships available through the Harvard University Committee on General Scholarships.
